XXII European Day of Jewish Culture, the program of meetings

The 22nd edition of the European Day of Jewish Culture will be held on Sunday 10 October. The new edition is dedicated to the different meanings of the word “dialogue”.

The day

The day, which in Milan coincides with the VI Festival Jewish and the City and will start on Saturday 9 October, it includes conferences, shows and concerts to explore the universe of dialogue (interreligious, between generations, in literature, but also with oneself in therapeutic dialogue, etc.), opening up to the knowledge of Jewish culture in all its aspects. On this occasion, the Milanese Jewish community will remember, with a dedicated event, the figure of Livio Garzanti one hundred years after the birth of the great publisher.

Many names on the calendar. To name just a few: rav Alfonso Arbib, Gioele Dix, the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese (connected via Zoom), Sergio Della Pergola with Ferruccio De Bortoli, Armando Torno, Haim Burstin, Jean Blanchaert.

The program

It starts on Saturday 9 October, at 9.30 pm, at the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology, with the theme of the vertical dialogue between man and God in the spettacolo “Yossl Rakover turns to God”, by Zvi Kolitz (actress Marina Bassani, violin: Yulia Verbiskaya).

Sunday 10 October, at the Synagogue in via Guastalla, at 10 am Gadi Schoenheit, councilor for culture of the Jewish community will introduce the day; Milo Hasbani, president of the Jewish community and rav Alfonso Arbib, chief rabbi of the Jewish community. A debate on interreligious dialogue will follow, curated by Fiona Diwan with rav Alfonso Arbib, Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo, Imam Yahia Pallavicini, Lama Paljiin Tullio Rinpoche; at 11.30 lecture by the historian Alberto Cavaglion on the dialogue between Italian institutions and the Jewish population with the participation (via zoom) of Minister Luciana Lamorgese and Milena Santerini, national coordinator for the fight against anti-Semitism.

At 12.30, monologue by Gioele Dix “A sweet language is a tree of life” (Proverbs 15,4).

In the afternoon, the events will be at the National Museum of Science and Technology starting from 3 pm

We will talk about dialogue between generations with (“The chain of transmission in Isaac Bashevis Singer and in the Yiddish diaspora. Between literature and life”. Edited by Fiona Diwan and Haim Burstin) ; of political dialogue, Israel and cohabitation with Ferruccio De Bortoli and Sergio Della Pergola, dialogue in art with the gallery owner Jean Blanchaert and therapeutic dialogue with the psychiatrist Leo Nahon.

At 6.30 pm, the memory of Livio Garzanti one hundred years after his birth, of the journalist, essayist and friend Armando Torno. Closing at 8.30 pm with a concert by Marco Valabrega's Dreidel ensemble on the musical dialogue between Sephardim and Ashkenazi under the direction of Roberto Zadik.

Monday 11 October, at 6.30 pm, at the Museum of Science and Technology will talk about social dialogue with Angelica Edna Calò Livne, an Italian Jewish teacher, director, actress and writer, who in the Upper Galilee, where she has lived for many years, created the Beresheet LaShalom Foundation – A beginning for peace, committed to 'intercultural education through theater.

Closing at 20.30 with a concert by the Masha Ray group, Jewish music between tradition and modernity.
