Bel parco cittadino con una estensione su di un’area enorme che va dal Castello Sforzesco all’Arco della Pace fiancheggiando la Triennale. È possibile fare una passeggiata, correre, giocare a pallone, leggere, mangiare qualcosa seduti nei chioschi qua e la per il parco, oppure comprare un panino, una bibita, un gelato e assaporarlo sulle panche o distesi sull’erba. Nelle belle giornate primaverili si puo apprezare appieno, molto distensivo dopo una giornata in giro per musei.

A nord del Castello Sforzesco si estende il più grande parco cittadino: Parco Sempione. Il parco deve il suo nome al fatto di essere posto lungo la direttrice che dal Duomo porta al Passo del Sempione. Un tempo terreno di caccia annesso alla dimora viscontea, alla caduta degli Sforza fu progressivamente abbandonato fino a diventare terreno incolto. Il primo progetto di riqualificazione è di fine Ottocento: sull’esempio dei grandi parchi all’inglese, si decise di farne un giardino con corsi d’acqua, sentieri e brevi alture. I suoi 47 ettari sono molto frequentati dai ragazzi milanesi, come racconta con ironia il brano musicale di Elio e le Storie Tese, e sono impreziositi da opere d’arte sparse nel verde: tra queste l’“Accumulazione musicale” di Arman e i “Bagni misteriosi” di Giorgio De Chirico.
Ci sono pure due alberi monumentali: un olmo sul belvedere di fronte alla statua di Napoleone III e un ippocastano nei pressi del “Ponte delle Sirenette”. L’area del Parco è delimitata dal Palazzo dell’Arte (l’edificio in stile razionalista che ospita la Triennale di Milano), l’Arena Civica voluta da Napoleone e l’attuale sede dell’Acquario Civico, l’unico padiglione in stile liberty che ricorda i fasti dell’Esposizione Universale del 1906. L’Arco della Pace, il monumento che segna il confine più periferico del parco, fu fatto erigere da Napoleone e progettato sul modello dell’Arco di Trionfo di Parigi, con il quale, si dice, sarebbe allineato. La Piazza che lo ospita, Piazza Sempione, è una delle zone più vivaci della movida notturna milanese.

Nice city park that extends over a very large area that goes from the Castello Sforzesco to the Arco della Pace along the Triennale. You can walk, jog, play football, read, eat something sitting in the kiosks scattered around the park, or grab a sandwich, a drink, an ice cream and enjoy it on the benches or lying on the grass. In these beautiful spring days you can fully appreciate it, very relaxing after a day visiting museums.
The largest city park extends north of the Sforzesco Castle: Parco Sempione. The park owes its name to the fact that it is located along the route that leads from the Duomo to the Simplon Pass. Once a hunting ground attached to the Visconti residence, when the Sforza family fell it was gradually abandoned until it became uncultivated land. The first redevelopment project dates back to the late nineteenth century: following the example of large English-style parks, it was decided to make it a garden with streams, paths and short hills. Its 47 hectares are very popular with young Milanese, as the musical piece by Elio and the Storie Tese tells with irony, and are embellished with works of art scattered in the green: among these the “Musical Accumulation” by Arman and the “Bagni mysterious ”by Giorgio De Chirico.
There are also two monumental trees: an elm on the lookout in front of the statue of Napoleon III and a horse chestnut near the “Bridge of the Sirens”. The Park area is bounded by the Palazzo dell’Arte (the rationalist-style building that houses the Milan Triennale), the Civic Arena commissioned by Napoleon and the current seat of the Civic Aquarium, the only style pavilion Art Nouveau that recalls the glories of the Universal Exposition of 1906. The Arch of Peace, the monument that marks the most peripheral border of the park, was built by Napoleon and designed on the model of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, with which, it is said, it would be aligned. The square that hosts it, Piazza Sempione, is one of the liveliest areas of the Milanese nightlife.
