Vincenzo Mascoli is a hotel, the hidden and intimate space of its rooms, existential alcoves , research and escape at the same time of a non-place capable of capturing the present, in its essence, which needs nothing but to express itself in the purest way, in order to let the traces of our life emerge, through art and the main eye of the artist. It is in this emotional and architectural groove that Vincenzo Mascoli presents Room n.2020 Transiti_Soste / Ripartenze, an exhibition, a narrative path that unfolds in the new spaces of the Hotel 101 Flats in Milan. About 60 works, drawings, sketches and some large canvases and tables to accompany the guests, in a continuous dialogue between private spaces and common spaces, a syncopated relazione that refers to what the works tell, express and spettacolo. Room n.2020 Transiti_Soste / Ripartenzereca with it the anxious grammar of the human body, whose tensions, defined by the purity of nudity, outline the liberation from useless trappings. It is in their encounter – with the other by themselves or with their own I – that they come to terms; every question, every reflection, every state of grace is evident from the translation made by the artist; Mascoli, formerly a set designer and artist, whose career has moved between Europe and the United States, now finds, in the return to handwriting as a sign of a gesture of the soul, a point of new beginning and connection with a past perhaps too far away, trying to unravel the mystery of human existence. Each work is an epiphany of ancestral evocations, the primacy of the sign and the body merge, leaving the material, the mixture of colors dictated by the unconscious, to animate the flow of vital energy, according to a sincere language accompanied by the need for return to a synthetic extremity, a “return to origins, like a young student full of dreams in front of models” says Vincenzo Mascoli. In a similar path, also a trace and sign of something else, the imaginative desire expressed by the works is mixed with the lives of travelers, in an eternal passage, where the here and now is deeply linked to a distant elsewhere. . Here, then, that the plot woven by Mascoli is innervated through his signs, whose bodies, whose subjects, are transformed into icons of universal metareal migration, in which every gesture, full of pathos, takes on the value of memento vitae, to remind us that we are alive, in our tireless search for truth, albeit travelers in the world and in living.
