“Apparizioni”, the new photographic exhibition by Guido Harari in 40 portraits

From Wednesday 19 May Leica Galerie Milano hosts the new exhibition Apparizioni by Guido Harari, the photographer and author who, eight years after his last exhibition in Milan, returns to his city, with a transversal selection of his most beloved portraits and some works exhibited here for the first time, dedicating to the public of visitors and collectors, a surprising collection of images of some of the major protagonists of Italian and international music and culture.

The exhibition

The exhibition, curated by Denis Curti, critic and author of specific texts dedicated to photographic collecting, presents, for the first time together, 40 iconic portraits ranging in every field explored by Harari in his more than forty-year career. “In pursuit of one's objects of affection,” says Harari, “one has to be ready for a kaleidoscope of apparitions, sightings, encounters and mirages. This exhibition invites the public to rest their gaze on my kaleidoscope. It might have some surprises in store for him. “Within the exhibition core”, the curator Denis Curti reiterates, “we are faced with some of the great icons of Guido Harari. The result of this journey takes us into a rarefied and timeless atmosphere in which not only the faces stand out, but the personalities of his subjects. “

David Bowie, Bob Dylan , Lou Reed, George Harrison, Luciano Pavarotti, but also the Milan of Gaber, Fo and Jannacci, Ada Merini, Giorgio Armani, and great women like Rita Levi Montalcini, Patti Smith, Greta Thunberg, Pina Bausch, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and again Fabrizio De André, Sebastiao Salgado, Ennio Morricone, Ezio Bosso, Renzo Piano, Bob Marley, Paolo Conte: many names that have made the history of music and the personalities that we would have liked to have the time to be able to look into the eyes, with that same depth of gaze, truly out of the ordinary, that Harari's art and magic are able to restore to us.

Leica Galerie Milano is aimed at an audience of enthusiasts and collectors, offering ( with the guarantee of a rigorous certification process) the photographs esp host in its spaces. In a short time it has become an important cultural reference point in the city, as have been the other Leica galleries in the world for years, including those in New York, Singapore, Tokyo, Vienna, Frankfurt, Prague, Warsaw, Melbourne, Salzburg, Solms and Sao Paulo.

“Apparitions. Sightings, encounters and mirages ”is the new cultural event that Leica Galerie Milano offers to the city. Since it was created in 2014, the gallery has achieved important public results even during the months of the pandemic. Maintaining and strengthening its bond with the world of collecting more and more, Leica Galerie Milano offers the exhibited works for sale, also providing valuable professional support even for those who are starting to approach this specific market and take the first steps towards the creation of a conscious collection.

All the works of the exhibition (a corpus of about 40 photographs) will in fact be proposed to the collectors market, signed and numbered, in different formats and editions. Having quickly become an important cultural reference point in the city, Leica Galerie Milano will soon resume being the site of numerous events and activities, such as lectures, debates, meetings with the most significant professionals in the sector and workshops aimed at different aspects of photography. organized by Leica Akademie Italy. But already now, in its welcoming space, next to the interesting bookshop, an entire wall dedicated to the Permanent Leica Collection has been set up where you can admire and buy some photos of different authors, already exhibited in previous exhibitions.

Guido Harari

Guido Harari established himself in the early seventies as a photographer and music journalist. Over time he has also explored and deepened the reportage, institutional portrait, advertising, fashion and graphic design of his books. Numerous record covers signed for artists such as Kate Bush, Pino Daniele, Bob Dylan, Fabrizio De André, BB King, Ute Lemper, Paul McCartney, Lou Reed and Frank Zappa. He was curator of the great multimedia exhibition on Fabrizio De André, in Genoa, as well as of the Art Kane exhibition. Visionary in Modena and at the Made in Cloister Foundation in Naples.

He has exhibited, with solo exhibitions, at the Rockheim Museum in Norway, at the Ravello Festival, at the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria in Perugia, at the National Museum Rossini in Pesaro and at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC. He has published numerous illustrated books including The Beat Goes On (with Fernanda Pivano, 2004), Fabrizio De André. A drop of splendor (2007), Fabrizio De André & PFM. Evaporati in a rock cloud (with Franz Di Cioccio, 2008), Gaber. The illogical utopia (2010), Pier Paolo Pasolini. Blasphemy (2015), The Kate Inside (2016), Fabrizio De André. Sguardi randagi (2018).

In 2011 he opened in Alba “Wall Of Sound Gallery”, a photo gallery and publishing house (Wall Of Sound Editions) dedicated to the imaginary of music. In 2020, together with photographer Paolo Ranzani, he created “Photo Action for Turin” in support of the
Covid-19 Extraordinary Fund of UG.I. (Union of Italian Parents) involving 107 great Italian and international photographers.
